Florida Harris Chain Bass Fishing

Harris Chain Bass Flipping the Grass! What an awesome fishery! I absolutely love fishing the Harris Chain in Leesburg Florida. It has been a favorite destination for Bassmaster tour tournaments for years. The lake is different from any other water I have fished in Florida. The water clarity is off-color and the Harris Chain actually has some deep water. I have found a few spots where it reaches depths of 23ft. This is unusual for Florida and can be a honey hole for bass at certain times. Here are some tips for fishing this dynamic chain of lakes.

The time of year can determine your approach to these connected lakes and a little homework before hand can lead to a full livewell. I will have to say that a spinnerbait is one of my favorite lures to throw and it’s a good thing because bass on the Harris Chain will tear one up! I recommend  white and chartreuse in color and match that with gold blades and hold on. You should also take into consideration the wind and cover you are fishing. This can make the spinnerbait that much more affective. Try and locate pockets in the Kissimmee grass and run the spinnerbait around the edges. This should produce well early and late in the day.

If you like to flip and pitch welcome to bliss! The Harris Chain is loaded with shoreline cover and vegetation. Try your natural colors and don’t be afraid to dig deep in the grass. Those big bass will bury up in the thick grass. A zoom trick worm in black or watermelon will get you plenty of bites throughout the day. You can also back out and fish some of the main-lake points with a Carolina Rig. This will produce well in the summer months especially. Another thing that produces well are topwater frogs. I prefer the Spro Bronzeye frog for this type fishing. It sounds crazy but cast your frog on dry land and retrieve it into the water this looks very natural to fish and will cause a reaction bite.

Try these tips and techniques the next time you plan a trip to one of Florida’s best bass waters, the Harris Chain of Lakes. Please feel free to bookmark this site for future Harris Chain updates and tips. If you have any comments on fishing the Harris Chain please feel free to post them.
