It is Not Always About A Tournament.
Now that all of us hardcore tourney fisherman are in the full swing of things let’s reflect on the real meaning of fishing.
The picture on the left says it all and I hope that you have taken time out of your busy tournament year to give back to our next generation of anglers. We often times forget about what really started our love for fishing. It may have been a local angler, a family member or even a friend that took you fishing and got you started on your way to making memories on the water. I try and always take time to help young anglers to enjoy fishing. Many children look up to pro anglers and amateurs alike, they see that bassboat and their heart starts to race. The next time you see a youngster looking at your rig take time and talk with them, it may be the only positive image of their day! Make a good impression and represent what we as anglers are all about.
I have written on this subject several times but I believe that it is paramount for the future of the sport to teach our next generation about angling and the ethics that come with it. Think about how hard you prepare for a tournament. If we prepare ourselves half as much at being a positive parent and role model our future generation will exceed all of us! Help prepare our youth, get involved in your community and make a difference. Take a child fishing!
