No Co-Anglers Allowed!

July 23rd, 2008

Co AnglerHow do you feel about the recent news from BASS? No more co-anglers for the elite events? I think it’s a bad move for the sport as a whole, but I understand the point the pro’s are trying to make. They do fish for a living as we co-anglers do not. How do you like it when your in a draw tourney and you get stuck with a guy who will not leave you alone the whole time trying to get in your head and asking you a thousand questions? Not to mention questioning your every move to find fish.

I do think BASS will take a big hit but we as “Professional Amateurs” need to quit trying to make decisions for people out there earning a living on the water. Hey, If we were that good we would be out there and if we were we would most likely want to fish by our selves. Let’s ban together as outdoorsman and just try and grow the sport of fishing. The future of our young anglers is what is really important not the fact that we can’t feel good about ourselves by cheering on touring pro’s from the back of the boat anymore. If we put half as much effort into our youth and their upbringing in the outdoors as we have complaining about a decision that quit frankly does not hurt our paycheck any, then we might make a positive difference in someone’s life.

I may be a bit harsh on this subject but we our all adults and we need to focus on the important decisions that need to be made to better our waterways and future fisherman.

The Many Faces of the Zoom Trick Worm

July 11th, 2008

Zoom Trick WormI don’t know about you but this has been a bass killer for me over the years and it continues to catch me fish in big situations. Here are a few ways I have used it to cash a check.

If you went on looks the Zoom Trick Worm would probably not be in your tackle box right? Let’s face it, it looks like it does nothing. Oh how wrong that is! When that bait hits the water it seems to come to life, wiggling, darting, shaking, quivering, everything that would drive a bass nuts it does. I believe that 90% of our strikes come out of reaction or aggression from bass. Most baits a bass will not study before they strike, they just eat it! This bait is one that can produce reaction strikes or get a wary bass to commit to eating it.

Texas Rig

A Texas rig worm is probably the most fished worm rig around and has produced tons of tournament bass over the years. This is still my favorite way to fish it. I have watched many people use this bait over the last few years and realized it’s versatility more and more. My uncle Roy Jones who has competed with the Bassmaster tournament trail is the best I have been around when it comes to the trick worm. Give him a black trick worm and he will go to work on the bass. I believe his success stems from his enormous amount of confidence he has in the baits capabilities. I once watched him use a 1/2 oz. weight on a Zoom trick worm in 1 to 3 ft of water and catch a limit of bass. I just did’nt have that much confidence in it but it worked!

Carolina Rig

Yes, I said it. The dreaded C-Rig. This bait works wonders on a C-Rig throughout the year. Many people throw a regular size trick worm but I choose to throw a finesse trick worm for most of my C-Rig fishing. To me those fish that are deep or holding to structure can be difficult to get to strike. The finesse worm seems to get me more bites. It’s ability to float off the bottom a bit really makes it enticing to bass that are deep.

Wacky Rig

When i first used this rig I was in Ohio on a Lake called Caesars Creek. Other wise known as bass fishing hell. Five fish limits are rare and double digit bags are almost obsolete. I was struggling to get bit there until i tied on a Wacky rig trick worm. I felt good about catching a limit on such a stupid looking rig. It has worked for me all over the country and is my go to bait for skipping docks. Try both sizes to see what the fish want then go to work.

I know these are basic rigs for a trick worm but I want you to remember that this bait belongs on one of your rods at all times!

It is Not Always About A Tournament.

June 17th, 2008

Wyoming TroutNow that all of us hardcore tourney fisherman are in the full swing of things let’s reflect on the real meaning of fishing.

The picture on the left says it all and I hope that you have taken time out of your busy tournament year to give back to our next generation of anglers. We often times forget about what really started our love for fishing. It may have been a local angler, a family member or even a friend that took you fishing and got you started on your way to making memories on the water. I try and always take time to help young anglers to enjoy fishing. Many children look up to pro anglers and amateurs alike, they see that bassboat and their heart starts to race. The next time you see a youngster looking at your rig take time and talk with them, it may be the only positive image of their day! Make a good impression and represent what we as anglers are all about.

I have written on this subject several times but I believe that it is paramount for the future of the sport to teach our next generation about angling and the ethics that come with it. Think about how hard you prepare for a tournament. If we prepare ourselves half as much at being a positive parent and role model our future generation will exceed all of us! Help prepare our youth, get involved in your community and make a difference. Take a child fishing!

Repair Your Soft Plastics With Mend-It

May 5th, 2008

Mend-ItIt seems to never fail. Every trip to the lake I come home with a mound of used soft plastic baits with small tears or rips in them. I usually have no choice but to discard them. Not any more!

Mend-It is a new product that will save you hundreds maybe thousands of dollars on soft plastics. It is not a glue and will not stick to your boat, fingers or clothes. It only sticks to plastic. Mend-It actually melts the plastic back together leaving a smooth soft plastic bait for you to fish over and over again. Do you have any high dollar swimbaits that need repair after one fish? Just apply Mend-It to the swimbait tear and it is good as new! The repaired area is even stronger than before without leaving a hard spot or crease in the bait giving it the same action it had right out of the pack! Why mess with glue anymore?

I also am using mend it to create different color combinations by tearing two worms apart and “Mending” them together creating a unique new color scheme. For example, take a black senko and cut an inch off the tail. Then cut a inch of tail off a blue senko, mend-it together and you have a unique new bait to show the fish. A black senko with a blue tail. The possibilities are up to you! Get creative and save money!

Mend-It is available in the ReelDeal Shop! Click Here!

Secret Weapon Lures

April 25th, 2008

Secret Weapon BuzzRbaitSecret Wepon Spinnerbait System

Secret Weapons patented no tool, quick change spinner blade attachments and innovative designs make first generation, conventional spinnerbaits virtually obsolete.

Success is literally just a snap away!

With the rise of today’s prices on everything from food to gas an angler really needs to be smart when purchasing new products. I am going to show you how to get five hundred spinnerbaits for less than ten cents per lure!

Normally reinventing the wheel is not worth the time and effort right? In this case I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Secret Weapon Lures has done just that with their revolutionary new spinnerbait design. Are you aware that over 12 million black bass are caught each year on safty pin style spinnerbaits. Many anglers carry dozens of different spinnerbait sizes and combinations so they will be ready for any condition. How would you like to carry 500 spinnerbaits in one box? Secret Weapons patented no tool, quick change spinner blade attachments and innovative designs make first generation, conventional spinnerbaits virtually obsolete.

Secret Weapon has two different styles of spinnerbaits the QuickStrike Spinnerbait and the SideArm Spinnerbait. The QuickStrike has five different weight choices 3/16, 5/16, 9/16, 11/16, 13/16. As the SideArm has three 3/16, 5/16, 9/16. Each of these spinnerbaits can be altered at any time on or off the water. You can replace blade configurations in seconds and skirt combinations in a flash. For example, if you are fishing a QuickStrike Bleeding minnow spinnerbait with a gold blade and the baitfish seem to be silver you can switch the blade on your Quickstrike to silver without tools or time wasting swivels. Success is literally just a snap away!

Secret Weapon Lures also have combined flash with the buzzbait by adding a clip on blade to give your buzzbait added attraction. Bass will zero in on the flashing blade behind the buzz blade. This will definitely increase your hookups by making the fish strike closer to the extra wide gap mustad hook that come on these new Secret Weapon BuzzRbaits! Just for added measure all the BuzzRbaits come standard with a 3/0 mustad trailer hook so you can remedy those slashing strikes! The BuzzRbait comes in three sizes 3/16, 5/16, 9/16.

Now at the beginning of this article I said I would show you how to get 500 spinnerbaits for less than 10 cents per lure right? It is called a Secret Weapon Tackle Pack. There are 9 different tackle packs to choose from and they all serve a special purpose from clear water tackle packs to stained water tackle packs. You can even get a BuzzRbait and SideArm Spinnerbait tackle pack. All of these Secret weapon tackle packs include at least 500 different combinations of spinnerbaits for you to choose from with one pack offering 5,000 spinnerbait and buzzbait combinations. Now that beats buying spinnerbaits at the local tackle shop for $5 to $10 dollars a pop!

Make plans to check out FishingReelDealz.com on May 1st. This will be the day we open the shop for you to be able to purchase the Secret Weapon Lures.

Tightlines,

Matt

Gitem Baits: The Sugar

April 16th, 2008

Gitem Sugar Red Shad/Green FlakeLooking for a bait to flip and pitch into those hard to reach places where the big boys hang out? Check out the Gitem Sugar.

The Gitem Sugar is a bait that I go to when the fish are being pressured or the weather throws me a curve. When the bite is tough this bait only gets better. This bait fishes well around any type of grass or even thick mats. It is designed to slide easily through cover and still have an appealing look to the bass. Many tournaments here in central Florida are being won on this little beaver style bait. The Gitem Sugar also puts out the Gitem formula that actually leaves a slick behind the bait that bass will key in on. Once a bass bites he will not let go! Many times prefishing it is hard to shake off a fish that bites a Gitem product. They just want to eat it!

You can check these baits out at www.GitemBaits.com and don’t forget to tell them Matt sent ya!
